The making · a sustainability story

Nothing new.
Everything reborn.

Every Von Claire candle begins as something someone was ready to throw away — a glass, a jar, the last inch of wax. We gather it, clean it, and pour it back to life. Here is how a castoff becomes something you'll want to keep.

01
Gather
Step 01

We gather what others let go.

It starts with a hunt. We partner with secondhand shops and take in glassware and wax from relatives, neighbors, and anyone clearing out a cupboard. Nearly everything comes home with us and finds a use — the glass is washed, the old wax is saved, the labels peel away.

Only the little that truly can't be reused — a spent wick, the odd bit of rubbish — is all we let go.

02
Create
Step 02

We make with whatever the day brings.

Because we never know exactly what we'll receive — which glass, which colors, which bit of leftover wax — we never know exactly what we'll make. That is the fun of it. We let the season and the materials lead, and see what wants to be created.

Von Claire isn't a factory. It's a table full of one-of-ones — pours we may never be able to make again, born from whatever came through the door that week.

03
Name
Step 03

We name it, and send it home.

The last step is the most playful — giving each pour a name that fits its color and its scent, then sending it off to a new home.

There is real beauty in watching something bound for the dump become a small light on someone's shelf — and, we hope, a little joy in their home.

The give-back

Send us an old candle. We'll send back a coupon.

Finished a candle — ours or anyone's? Mail us the empty vessel and we'll take a little off your next pour. Every jar you send back is one more saved from the bin, and one more waiting to be reborn.

“There's so much joy in giving new life to something that would have ended up in the dump.”
